You can find VOS at local Remembrance events between Friday 11 November and Sunday 13 November 2022. As always, we would love to see you there.
Many of our volunteers, veterans, and staff members will be wearing their poppies at various Remembrance services across Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, including:
Guildhall Square Armistice Day Service
– Friday 11 November, starting 1055 at the WWI Memorial
This short service is set to include a selection of readings and poems along with the two-minute silence at 1100.
Thorney Island Remembrance Day Service
– Friday 11 November, starting 1055 at the Cenotaph
This event is marked by the firing of guns from the King’s Troop on Horse Guards Parade followed by a service at the Cenotaph.
Guildhall Square Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade
– Sunday 13 November, 1030-1200 at Guildhall Square
This event starts with a parade of veterans, military personnel and youth groups in the Guildhall Square. Following the two-minute silence, there will also be a wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph. For more details you can visit the Portsmouth City Council website here.
We’ve also got some lighthearted activities planned for Saturday 12 November. There is still time to join VOS for a very special boat trip from 10-11AM on Motor Gunboat 81, or a veterans’ sea fishing activity from 1300-1730 later that day. (Want more info on getting involved? Email wellbeing@vosuk.org!)
If you’re a veteran from the UK Armed Forces or the Merchant Navy (from any time of service) or a partner to one, VOS would love for you to join our community. We are here to offer our support: call us on 02392 731 767, visit an upcoming drop-in, or email admin@vosuk.org.
VOS is immensely grateful for the support and funding we receive from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust and the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity.
