VOS Volunteers are Deserved Winners!

We’re thrilled to share the news that our incredible Volunteers have been honoured with the ‘Education & Wellbeing Team Award’ at this year’s ‘Portsmouth Inspiring Volunteer Awards’!

A small number of VOS Volunteers attended the ceremony arranged by HIVE Portsmouth, to accept the award on behalf of all our amazing Volunteers. The ceremony was held at the Kings Theatre, Portsmouth earlier this week (30th September).

These awards celebrate Portsmouth’s most dedicated and inspiring volunteers, shining a spotlight on their outstanding contributions to the community.

Our VOS Volunteers selflessly serve our veteran communities, often behind the scenes and without expectation of recognition.

Wendy Pearson, VOS Network & Development Manager (formerly Delivery Manager) said:

“We are indebted to our volunteers and delighted to see their vital work recognised with this award! They are the backbone of the organisation – volunteering at our drop-in days, social groups and wellbeing activities, offering emotional support and camaraderie.

“They show genuine care and understanding, creating safe spaces for veterans, their families and carers. We are deeply grateful for their compassion and tireless service that has made a lasting difference to our veteran communities – they are the true embodiment of selflessness and duty.”

Deborah Northwood, VOS Volunteer said:

“Volunteering isn’t about being thanked or recognised. However, last night, on receipt of this award, I realised how VOS and their Volunteers have made a massive impact on the community.

“As we stood there on the stage, I felt extremely proud to be part of such a truly great team. “

This event was organised by ‘Together in Hive Portsmouth and Pompey in the Community’ and aims to recognise the hard work and outstanding contributions made by volunteers across Portsmouth.

The evening was a powerful reminder of the strength and spirit of Portsmouth’s volunteer network, bringing together people from all walks of life who share a common goal: to uplift and support their community.

Veterans Outreach Support is a registered charity, which means we need a certain amount of funding to be able to deliver support to veterans and their partners in a variety of ways, including in the form of cognitive, behavioural and emotional well-being therapies or treatments.

If you’re a veteran from the UK Armed Forces or the Merchant Navy (from any time of service) or a partner to one, VOS would love for you to join our community. We are here to offer our support: call us on 02392 731 767, visit an upcoming drop-in, or email wellbeing@vosuk.org
