VOS Receives Generous Grant from Trinity House Maritime Charity

Veterans Outreach Support is delighted to announce that Trinity House Maritime Charity has provided us with a grant of £10,000. We are incredibly grateful for their support.

Trinity House is the UK’s largest endowed maritime charity, dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers, providing education, support and welfare to the seafaring community. The £10,000 they have given us will go a long way toward providing life-changing clinical mental health support to former seafarers, especially those from the Merchant Navy (plus their spouses, partners and carers) here in Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight, Gosport, Fareham and the Solent area.

If you’re unaware of the life-changing work Trinity House provides, do check out the almshouses they offer for retired mariners and their dependants in Kent, and how they sponsor cadets through the Merchant Navy Scholarship Scheme. They also provide more than £5 million annually to charities across the country working to support similar causes. This impact is significant, and we are proud to be making a contribution to this, funded by this generous grant.

“We are delighted to have been granted this support from the Trinity House Maritime Charity, and look forward to using it to help seafarers and their families in the year ahead.

Trinity House is well known for the great work it does in keeping seafarers safe in the waters around our nation, quite literally by keeping the lights on, with its lighthouses, and by maintaining safe pilotage channels for those at sea.

This funding will provide an equally helpful beacon of hope and pathway for those whose seafaring days are behind them, but who need the support that VOS can give.” VOS CEO Ian Millen.

Veterans Outreach Support is a registered charity, which means we need a certain amount of funding to be able to deliver support to veterans and their partners in a variety of ways, including in the form of cognitive, behavioural and emotional wellbeing therapies or treatments.

For some examples of how this funding makes a difference in our community, check out Tony’s story and the round-up of what we achieved from January to March 2023.

If you’re a veteran from the UK Armed Forces or the Merchant Navy (from any time of service) or a partner to one, VOS would love for you to join our community. We are here to offer our support: call us on 02392 731 767, visit an upcoming drop-in, or email wellbeing@vosuk.org.
